แอมโมไนต์ (อังกฤษ: Ammonite) เป็นสัตว์ประเภทเซฟาโลพอดชนิดหนึ่ง สามารถพบได้หลายที่บนโลก รวมทั้งประเทศไทยด้วย มันมีอยู่หลากหลายชนิด และพบได้ทั่วไปในทะเลดึกดำบรรพ์นับตั้งแต่ยุคดีโวเนียน จนกระทั่งมันสูญพันธุ์ไปพร้อมกับไดโนเสาร์ เมื่อ 65 ล้านปีก่อน ในช่วงปลายยุคครีเทเชียส แอมโมไนต์มีขนาดตั้งแต่ 23 เซนติเมตร (9 นิ้ว) ไปจนถึง 2 เมตร
แม้แอมโมไนต์จะมีรูปร่างหน้าตาคล้ายสัตว์จำพวกนอติลอยด์ แต่แท้จริงแล้วพวกมันมีความใกล้เคียงกับสัตว์จำพวกหมึกมากกว่า[4] และเนื่องจากพวกแอมโมไนต์มีวิวัฒนาการทางโครงสร้างและรูปร่างอย่างรวดเร็ว มีความแตกต่างในแต่ละช่วงอายุอย่างเห็นเด่นชัด จึงมักนิยมใช้ซากของพวกแอมโมไนต์เป็นซากดึกดำบรรพ์ดัชนี
ชื่อ "แอมโมไนต์" มีที่มาจากการที่พลินีผู้อาวุโสเรียกซากดึกดำบรรพ์ของแอมโมไนต์ว่า "เขาของอัมมอน (ammonis cornua)" เนื่องจากพวกมันมีรูปร่างคล้ายเขาแกะ ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่มักจะปรากฏอยู่เป็นทั่วไปว่าเทพเจ้าองค์นั้นใส่อยู่[5]
