ชีวภูมิศาสตร์

ชีวภูมิศาสตร์ (อังกฤษ: biogeography) คือการศึกษาเกี่ยวกับการกระจายของสปีชีส์และระบบนิเวศในพื้นที่ทางภูมิศาสตร์รวมถึงธรณีกาล สิ่งมีชีวิตและกลุ่มทางชีววิทยามักมีความแตกต่างกันไปตามลักษณะทางภูมิศาสตร์ ได้แก่ ละติจูด ระดับสูง บริเวณที่แตกต่างและพื้นที่อยู่อาศัย^[1] ชีวภูมิศาสตร์มีแขนงวิชาย่อยคือภูมิศาสตร์พืชซึ่งศึกษาเกี่ยวกับการกระจายของพืชและภูมิศาสตร์สัตว์ที่ศึกษาเกี่ยวกับการกระจายของสัตว์

ความรู้เกี่ยวกับการเปลี่ยนแปลงเชิงพื้นที่จากจำนวนและชนิดของสิ่งมีชีวิตมีความสำคัญต่อมนุษย์จนถึงทุกวันนี้เช่นเดียวกับบรรพบุรุษเริ่มแรกของมนุษย์ โดยมนุษย์มีการปรับตัวให้สภาพแวดล้อมที่แตกต่างกันและสามารถคาดการณ์สิ่งแวดล้อมในทางภูมิศาสตร์ได้ ชีวภูมิศาสตร์จึงเป็นสาขาที่บูรณาการแนวคิดและข้อมูลจากสาขานิเวศวิทยา ชีววิทยาวิวัฒนาการ ธรณีวิทยา และภูมิศาสตร์กายภาพ^[2]

การวิจัยทางชีวภูมิศาสตร์สมัยใหม่มีการรวบรวมข้อมูลและแนวคิดจากหลายสาขาจากข้อจำกัดทางกายภาพและนิเวศวิทยาของการแพร่พันธุ์ของสิ่งมีชีวิตต่อปรากฏการณ์ทางธรณีวิทยาและภูมิอากาศวิทยาในระดับโลกและกรอบเวลาของวิวัฒนาการ
