นครรัฐ

นครรัฐ (อังกฤษ: city state) คือภูมิภาคที่ควบคุมโดยสมบูรณ์โดยเมืองเพียงเมืองเดียว ส่วนใหญ่จะมีเอกราช

โมนาโก ถือเป็นนครรัฐแห่งหนึ่ง

โดยประวัติศาสตร์แล้ว นครรัฐมักจะเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของพื้นที่ทางวัฒนธรรมที่ใหญ่กว่า ดังเช่นนครรัฐในกรีกโบราณ (เช่น เอเธนส์ สปาร์ตา และโครินธ์) เมืองในเอเชียกลางตามเส้นทางสายไหม นครรัฐในอิตาลีเหนือ (โดยเฉพาะ ฟลอเรนซ์และเวนิซ)

ปัจจุบันประเทศที่เป็นนครรัฐมีอยู่ทั้งหมด 3 ประเทศ คือ สาธารณรัฐสิงคโปร์, ราชรัฐโมนาโก และนครรัฐวาติกัน แต่บางแห่งก็ถูกจัดว่าเป็นนครรัฐด้วย ได้แก่ สาธารณรัฐมอลตาสาธารณรัฐซานมารีโนราชรัฐลีชเทินชไตน์ราชรัฐอันดอร์ราราชรัฐลักเซมเบิร์กรัฐกาตาร์เนการาบรูไนดารุสซาลามรัฐคูเวต และราชอาณาจักรบาห์เรน
